Appropriate Surgical Attire

In the next 3 weeks, I will be blogging about the appropriate surgical attire that AORN has recommended for operating room personnel.  This is an area of constant battle within my department; and one that we find difficult to enforce with the amount of staff coming in and out of the department.

In this day and age of surgical site infection monitoring and reporting, maintaining a surgical environment that reduces these infection rates is so important, and wearing appropriate surgical attire is an easy way to start the journey of infection free surgeries.

There are many resources out there on surgical attire.  In 2012, AORN released new recommendations on surgical attire.  In addition, in 2013 AORN released an article that is an adjunct to the recommendations and standards, I highly encourage you to check out this article.  This blog will reference this article, along with my own personal experiences with inappropriate surgical attire.  I hope you enjoy this
